It’s hard to deny that things are getting better for Florida State.
Over the last five quarters, the Seminoles have outscored a pair of ACC opponents by a 45-13 margin. The Seminoles have also won consecutive games over Power 5 teams for the first time since winning the last five games of 2016.
Although one of the smaller reasons, a reason for FSU’s recent success is the fact that the Seminoles have not turned the ball over in three games. Going back to a 31-24 loss to Virginia on Sept. 14, FSU has not turned the ball over while forcing six during that stretch.
The recent stretch marks just the second time in program history that FSU has gone three consecutive games without a turnover. The previous long streak came in 2015 when the Seminoles went five straight games without a turnover in wins over South Florida, Boston College, Wake Forest, Miami and Louisville.
The change is a welcome one for an FSU team that turned the ball over five times during its first two games of the season against Boise State and Louisiana-Monroe. At +5, FSU currently ranks third in the ACC in turnover margin and 17th nationally.
Last season, FSU ranked just 124th nationally in turnover margin at -11. Among Power 5 teams, only Louisville and Rutgers had a worse margin. Among Power 5 teams, only Rutgers and California had more than the Seminoles’ 26 turnovers.
Although there is an element of luck involved with turnovers, FSU will try to keep that streak going next Saturday when it travels to Death Valley to take on Clemson. The Tigers are currently -1 in the turnover margin category. FSU turned it over twice to just once for Clemson in last season’s 59-10 home loss to the eventual national champions.
