Your Thoughts Thursday: Cam Akers is FSU’s MVP to This Point

Florida State is idle this week, but that didn’t stop us from talking football in this week’s The Daily Nole Poll.

This week, we asked our social media followers who FSU’s MVP to this point was. The selection was not surprising, but the overwhelming nature that he was selected may be.

Running back Cam Akers received 77 percent of the 208 votes. He was followed by defensive tackle Marvin Wilson with 19 percent and wide receiver Tamorrion Terry with 4 percent. In what may be a first for the poll, junior safety Hamsah Nasirildeen did not get a vote.

Our Take
I actually wavered on taking Marvin Wilson on this one, but as usual, our followers got it right.

There’s no telling where Florida State might be as a program without Cam Akers. Through five games, Akers ranks sixth in the country with 582 yards rushing and fifth in scoring — leading the ACC with nine total touchdowns.

The nine touchdowns — seven rushing and two receiving — so far this season are more than Akers has recorded in any prior season. Akers has accounted for about 41 percent of Florida State’s total touchdowns.

Akers had led Florida State in yards from scrimmage in every game so far this season. Akers is on pace for nearly 1,400 yards rushing and 22 total touchdowns. The latter would be an FSU school record.
