It could be subject to change this weekend depending on what happens in the final two games of a 3-game series, but Florida State arrived in Louisville with a claim that no other ACC program could make.
Since the Cardinals entered the ACC in 2015, just about every team in the conference has a losing record at Louisville. There are only two exceptions — Florida State and Virginia. Prior to Thursday, the Seminoles were the only team with a winning record.
The Seminoles entered the series opener with a 3-2 record since 2015 at Louisville. Although it wasn’t a home game, FSU also defeated the Cardinals in Louisville during the 2017 ACC Tournament.
On Thursday night, Louisville blasted FSU, 14-1, in the first game of the 3-game series. With the loss, FSU fell to 3-3 against the Cardinals at Jim Patterson Stadium since Louisville became a member of the ACC.
Virginia is also 3-3 against the Cardinals in Louisville since 2015. Every other ACC team has a losing record at Louisville in conference play.
Louisville took two of three from FSU when the teams met in 2015, but the Seminoles rebounded to take both games of what was supposed to be a 3-game series in 2017. The final contest of the series that year was canceled by rain.
With the blowout loss on Thursday night, Florida State’s slim hopes of being the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament were washed away. The Seminoles are currently tied with NC State for the fifth-best record in ACC play at 16-12. FSU dropped two of three to the Wolfpack this season and would lose the tiebreaker.

FSU softball is one of two programs to secure a top-8 national seed in the NCAA Tournament in each of the last four seasons. The other is Florida.
FSU football will be playing its opener at night for the seventh straight season. It will open 2019 against Boise State in Jacksonville on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. EST.
