Virginia Blasts FSU to Avoid Sweep, 13-3

Virginia homered four times and had five different players have multi-hit games in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers avoided the sweep with a 13-3 victory over Florida State.

Cameron Simmons got the scoring started for Virginia (23-18) with a 2-run home run in the third inning. Alex Tappen added a 3-run blast for the Cavaliers during a 5-run fifth inning before Tanner Morris answered FSU’s first run with a solo homer in the sixth. Nate Eikhoff added a solo shot of his own in the eighth.

The loss for FSU (24-14) ends a 5-game winning streak and a 6-game streak in ACC play. Virginia starting pitcher Griff McGarry allowed just a run in five innings to pick up the win.
