FSU Holds Off Virginia 5-3, Clinches Series

Florida State strung together two nice offensive innings in the fifth and sixth while starting pitcher C.J. Van Eyk did the rest as the Seminoles took the first game of a doubleheader and clinched the series over Virginia in Charlottesville on Saturday, 5-3.

The Seminoles (24-13) went ahead for good with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. After an RBI triple by Drew Mendoza tied the game, Robby Martin singled him home.

FSU added three runs in the sixth with two coming on a single by Martin. Virginia (22-18) scored two of its three runs in the eighth inning. The win for FSU is its fifth straight.
