The Daily Nole — April 20, 2019: FSU’s Niles Named CCSA Coach of the Year

Lead Story

Florida State beach volleyball head coach Brooke Niles was honored by the CCSA on Thursday as the association’s Coach of the Year after leading the Seminoles to the No. 1 seed in the CCSA Tournament and a 23-5 overall record.

It was Niles’ first honor despite leading FSU to two national championship appearances in the last three years. She was one of four different Seminoles to be recognized by the CCSA.

Freshman Kate Privet was named the CCSA Freshman of the Year. The tandem of Alaina Chacon and Madison Fitzpatrick earned first-team CCSA honors. Macy Jerger, a senior, was previously named CCSA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the third time.

Between the Lines

FSU beach volleyball blanked both Southern Mississippi and College of Charleston to open the CCSA Tournament on Friday. FSU men’s tennis fell to Virginia in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, 4-0. FSU women’s tennis topped Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, 4-0. FSU track and field competed in the Bryan Clay Invitational, War Eagle Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays. FSU softball blanked Boston College, 5-0.

On the Agenda

FSU beach volleyball continues the CCSA Tournament on Saturday while FSU men’s and women’s golf each wrap up the ACC Tournament. FSU track and field will conclude all three events. FSU softball hosts Boston College. FSU women’s tennis will take on Duke in the ACC Tournament. FSU baseball will play a doubleheader at Virginia.

News and Notes

C.J. Van Eyk will be the starting pitcher for FSU against Virginia in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

FSU beach volleyball topped TCU on Saturday, 5-0, to advance to the CCSA Tournament semifinals.

FSU men’s golf finished fourth at the ACC Championships while sophomore John Pak claimed the individual crown.

FSU baseball took the first game of a doubleheader from Virginia on Saturday, 5-3. Virginia won the second game, 13-3.

FSU women’s golf finished in second place at the ACC Championships, which wrapped up on Saturday.

FSU women’s tennis fell to Duke in the ACC Tournament semifinals on Saturday, 4-3.

4-star cornerback Jalen Harrell committed to FSU on Saturday.
