FSU Men’s Tennis Blanked by Virginia in ACC Quarterfinals, 4-0

An upset was not in the cards for Florida State’s seventh-seeded men’s tennis team during the ACC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday. No. 2 seed Virginia dominated from the start in a 4-0 victory.

The contest was originally scheduled for Cary, North Carolina but bad weather moved the tournament indoors to Chapel Hill. That didn’t seem to matter much for FSU (18-10), which will now wait to see where it goes for the NCAA Tournament.

Richard Thongoana was the only FSU player to win a single set, but he was trailing Virginia’s Matthew Lord, 5-4, in the second before the match ended. Brandon Nakashima clinched for Virginia (20-3) with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over FSU’s Alex Knaff.

Virginia will advance to the ACC semifinals to face North Carolina. The third-seeded Tar Heels defeated Louisville on Friday.
