FSU Men’s Tennis Tops Duke to Open ACC Tournament

In five days, Florida State men’s tennis now has two wins over Duke.

After winning 4-3 on Sunday in Durham, the seventh-seeded Seminoles topped the 10th-seeded Blue Devils 4-2 in the first round of the ACC Tournament in Cary, North Carolina on Thursday. FSU will move on to face No. 2 seed Virginia on Friday in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

Juan Martin Jalif clinched the match for FSU (18-9) with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Duke’s Catalin Mateas on Court 4. Richard Thongoana recorded a 3-set win over Jason Lapidus of Duke, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, to give FSU a 3-2 lead.

Alex Knaff and Lucas Poullain each won in straight sets for the Seminoles after Duke (11-14) took the doubles point. Duke’s Sean Sculley scored the only singles points for the Blue Devils by taking down FSU’s Rana Roop Bhullar in straight sets.
