The Daily Nole — April 12, 2019: FSU Women’s Tennis Rallies to Top Virginia in Top-20 Match-Up

Lead Story

Less than a week after knocking off a top-10 NC State team on the road, Florida State women’s tennis returned home to get the better of No. 19 Virginia in a 4-3 thriller on Thursday evening.

After losing the doubles point, FSU’s back was against the proverbial wall as the Seminoles soon found themselves in a 3-1 hole. Andrea Garcia and Ana Oparenovic each won matches for the Seminoles, turning all attention to the tiebreaker on Court 5.

Ariana Rahmanparast was able to clinch the match for FSU with a hard-fought 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 win over Virginia’s Sofia Munera. With the win, 12th-ranked Florida State improved to 18-5 on the season. FSU wraps up the regular season on Saturday against Louisville.

Between the Lines

In addition to tennis, FSU track and field began the Crimson Tide Invitational on Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU track and field continues the Crimson Tide Invitational on Friday. FSU beach volleyball will be in Fort Worth to take on UAB, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and TCU. FSU men’s tennis will be at Wake Forest. FSU baseball will host Clemson at 6 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

Former FSU basketball player Maria Conde was selected in the third round of the WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky on Wednesday night.

FSU softball pitcher Meghan King was among 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award.

FSU baseball defeated Clemson on Friday night at Dick Hoswer Stadium, 6-2.
