The Daily Nole — April 8, 2019: FSU Women’s Tennis Upsets No. 10 NC State

Lead Story

It was a solid Sunday all around for Florida State athletics, but no victory was more impressive than FSU women’s tennis knocking off No. 10 NC State in Raleigh by a 4-3 score.

FSU trailed 3-2 in the match, but Ana Oparenovic was able to draw the Seminoles even with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 victory over NC State’s Adriana Reami. That put all eyes on Court 2 where Florida State’s Emmanuele Salas outlasted the Wolfpack’s Alana Smith in a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7, 7-6 victory.

FSU dropped the doubles point, forcing it to win four of the six duals. Also scoring victories for the Seminoles on Sunday were Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia.

With the win, FSU improves to 17-5. The Seminoles wrap up the regular season with home matches against Virginia and Louisville.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU women’s tennis, the men topped Virginia Tech, 4-3, on Sunday. FSU men’s golf finished fourth at the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate while the women began the Clemson Invitational. FSU baseball topped Miami on Sunday in Coral Gables, 6-5.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s golf continues the Clemson Invitational on Monday. FSU softball will wrap up a 3-game series at Louisville at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN2.

News and Notes

The latest college baseball polls will be released on Monday.

Virginia and Texas Tech will play college basketball’s national championship on Monday night.

The ACC will name players of the week for various sports on Monday.

FSU fell out of the NCBWA Poll on Monday.
