Boston College turned a pitchers’ duel into a laugher on Sunday afternoon as the Eagles blanked Florida State at Dick Howser Stadium to take the series, 8-0.

The contest was scoreless after six innings before Boston College (14-13) pushed three runs across in the seventh. Sal Frelick opened the scoring with a 2-run home run before Gian Martellini added an RBI single later in the frame.

The Eagles were able to put the contest out of reach with four runs in the top of the eighth. They added one in the ninth to cap the scoring.

The top four hitters in the Boston College lineup — Brian Dempsey, Frelick, Jake Alu and Martellini — all had two hits in the win. Dempsey and Frelick each had two RBIs while Alu and Chris Galland each scored two runs. Galland also had two hits. Cody Morissette went 3-for-4 with an RBI for a Boston College team that finished with 15 hits in the win.

FSU (18-9) managed just four hits for the second day in a row. Conor Grady allowed three runs in 1.1 innings to suffer his second loss of the season.

Boston College starter Mason Pelio allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out eight in seven innings of work to earn the win. FSU starter Shane Drohan was stellar again, yielding just six hits and two walks while striking out eight in 5.2 innings.

FSU will remain home to face Jacksonville on Tuesday before visiting Miami for three games, beginning on Friday.
