Florida State cut a 7-run deficit down to one and put the tying run in scoring position, but couldn’t get over the hump at Dick Howser Stadium on Friday night in a 10-7 loss to Boston College.

The Seminoles (17-8) fell behind 7-0 early and trailed 8-3 entering the bottom of the eighth inning. FSU was able to add four runs in the frame on a 2-run single by Robby Martin and a 2-run double by Mike Salvatore to cut the lead to 8-7. With Salvatore on second, Reese Albert grounded out to end the threat.

The Eagles (13-12) set the tone with a 3-run home run by Gian Matellini in the top of the first. Boston College added two more in the second to chase FSU starter Drew Parrish.

Down 7-0, the Seminoles got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. After a 2-run double by Martin broke up the shutout, Johnathan Foster singled him home.

After FSU pulled to within one in the eighth, Boston College created some breathing room with two runs in the ninth. Jack Cunningham singled home a run before coming around to score on a wild pitch.

The Seminoles managed to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but Nander De Sedas and Carter Smith each flied out to end the contest.

Salvatore, Martin and Elijah Cabell each had two hits for FSU. Cabell and De Sedas each scored a pair of runs.

Parrish took the loss for FSU to fall to 3-2 on the season after suffering just one loss last year. Dan Metzdorf allowed three runs on six hits in six innings while striking out six and walking three.

At the plate, Brian Dempsey and Jake Alu each had three hits for the Eagles. Dempsey finished with two RBIs while Alu, Joe Suozzi and Sal Frelick all scored twice. Frelick, normally jersey No. 11, wore No. 35 as a tribute to FSU head coach Mike Martin.

The Eagles go for the series victory when the teams meet again on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST.
