Gators Make it 10 Straight Over FSU in Jacksonville, 4-2

Florida athletics

Getting past Florida seem to be downright impossible for Florida State at this point. The Gators won their 10th straight in the series and 14th in 15 tries against the rival Seminoles on Tuesday night in Jacksonville, 4-2, thanks to a big seventh inning.

The Gators (17-10) pushed three runs across in the top of the seventh and broke a 2-2 tie with a 2-run double off the bat of Brady McConnell. Florida was able to even the game on the at-bat prior with an infield single by Jacob Young coupled with a throwing error by FSU second baseman Mike Salvatore that allowed Jud Fabian to come around and score.

Salvatore looked as though he might be the hero the half inning prior. After putting up zeros through five frames, Salvatore delivered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to give the Seminoles (17-7) a 2-1 lead. For the second straight meeting, FSU committed three errors. None of the four runs for Florida were earned.

Antonio Velez faced two batters and struck out one, but took the loss thanks to an unearned run. Christian Scott worked 3.1 innings of 1-hit baseball to pick up the win for Florida. Starters Nolan Crisp for Florida and FSU’s Jonah Scolaro were each sharp on Tuesday night, but neither factored in the decision.

Salvatore had three of the five FSU hits in the loss. Florida managed just six hits in the win with Kendrick Calilao and McConnell each accounting for two.

The Seminoles and Gators will wrap up the season series in two weeks in Tallahassee as Florida goes for the season sweep. FSU returns to action on Friday at home against Boston College.
