The Daily Nole — March 25, 2019: Time, Network Set for Sweet 16

The match-up for Florida State in the Sweet 16 has been known, but the Seminoles now know when it will play.

Fourth-seeded FSU’s Sweet 16 match-up with No. 1 seed Gonzaga in Anaheim is set for 7:09 p.m. EST on Thursday night and will air on CBS. The Seminoles topped the Bulldogs in last season’s West Regional semifinal, 75-60.

The winner of the contest will play Saturday against either No. 2 seed Michigan or No. 3 seed Texas Tech. The Red Raiders clinched the final spot in the West Region semifinals on Sunday with an easy 78-58 win over sixth-seeded Buffalo. Michigan topped FSU in last season’s Elite Eight to reach the Final Four.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s golf continued the Evans Derby Invitational on Sunday while FSU softball completed the sweep of NC State in six innings, 8-0. FSU women’s tennis fell at Syracuse, 4-3. FSU baseball topped Notre Dame in 10 innings, 3-1. FSU women’s basketball fell to South Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, 72-64.

News and Notes

FSU is ranked No. 20 in both the D1Baseball and Collegiate Baseball Polls. The Seminoles are No. 21 in the Baseball America Poll. FSU fell to No. 19 in the NCBWA Poll.

The ACC will name players of the week for various sports on Monday.
