FSU Outlasts Notre Dame in Extras

On a day where offense was largely non-existent, Florida State took advantage of Notre Dame miscues in extra innings to top the Fighting Irish and take the series in 10 innings in South Bend, 3-1.

Notre Dame shortstop Jared Miller committed a pair of errors with two outs in the top of the 10th to allow FSU (17-6) to score a pair of unearned runs. It was a throwing error on a ground ball off the bat of Elijah Cabell that allowed both runs to score and the Seminoles to go ahead for good.

Through five innings, FSU starter Shane Drohan and Notre Dame’s Cameron Junker traded zeros. Both teams’ only runs in regulation came in the sixth.

After Cabell tripled and later scored on a wild pitch, Notre Dame answered on a sacrifice fly by Niko Kavadas in the bottom half of the inning that scored Carter Putz. Eric Gilgenbach had the only hit of the day for the Fighting Irish (9-12).

Conor Grady picked up the win for FSU, working 3.2 innings of relief and retiring all 11 batters he faced. Although he didn’t allow an earned run, Joe Boyle took the loss for Notre Dame. J.C. Flowers worked around walking the first two batters in the 10th to pitch a scoreless inning and get the save for FSU.

Reese Albert had two of the five hits for the Seminoles and scored a run. FSU takes the 3-game series with the win and now heads to Jacksonville to take on rival Florida on Tuesday night.
