Notre Dame Blasts FSU to Cap Doubleheader, 12-3

After being held to one run and five hits in the first game on Saturday, Notre Dame brought out the big bats to top Florida State 12-3 in the second game of a doubleheader in South Bend.

Notre Dame (9-11) scored multiple runs in five of the first six innings and never trailed in the contest. The Fighting Irish scored two runs in the second, fourth and sixth and three runs in the third and fifth to cruise to an easy victory.

Carter Putz was 3-for-4 with four RBIs in the victory while Spencer Myers was 3-for-3 with an RBI and four runs scored. Daniel Jung and Jared Miller each plated a pair of runs for the Fighting Irish. Jung and Jack Alexander each scored twice.

FSU (16-6) starter C.J. Van Eyk struggled mightily, allowing seven runs — four earned — in 3.2 innings. Van Eyk allowed just three hits, but walked six batters. The Seminoles committed three errors in the defeat.

Elijah Cabell and Jonathan Foster each had two of the seven hits for the Seminoles. Foster and second baseman Mike Salvatore had the team’s only RBIs.

Earning the win for Notre Dame was Cameron Brown, who went the distance in the victory. Brown struck out 12 hitters in the contest. All three FSU runs were earned.

The Seminoles and Fighting Irish will play the rubber game on Sunday at 12 p.m. EST. The contest airs on ACC Network Extra.
