Starting pitcher Drew Parrish set the tone and the bats soon followed as Florida State had little trouble with Notre Dame in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, 7-1.

Parrish allowed just two hits and two walks in six shutout innings while striking out nine on Saturday to pick up his third win of the young season. Notre Dame starting pitcher Tommy Sheehan held FSU (16-5) scoreless through three innings before the Seminoles opened things up in the fourth.

After Robby Martin got the scoring started with a 2-run double, Mike Salvatore singled him home. One inning later, Elijah Cabell delivered a 2-run blast to extend the lead to 5-0 midway through. Martin would add another RBI double in the eight before Drew Mendoza capped the FSU scoring with a solo home run in the ninth.

Notre Dame (8-11) broke up the shutout in the seventh inning when David LaManna singled home Niko Kavadas. Sheehan took the loss for Notre Dame.

Salvatore had three of the 10 hits for FSU in the victory. Martin, Mendoza and J.C. Flowers each had a pair of hits. Mendoza and Flowers each scored twice in the victory. Florida State goes for the series victory over the Fighting Irish in the second game of a doubleheader.
