The Daily Nole — March 11, 2019: FSU Softball Rallies Past Arizona to Take Series

Lead Story

In a the rubber game of a 3-game series between two top-15 softball teams, No. 1 Florida State emerged victorious on Saturday in a dramatic 4-3 victory over Arizona.

The Seminoles trailed 3-1 in the fifth inning when Dani Morgan delivered the big blow with a 3-run blast to conclude the scoring. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats put the winning run in scoring position, but FSU’s Meghan King struck out Hanah Bowen to end the contest.

King wasn’t at her best, allowing eight hits and three walks, but still went the distance to earn the win. Morgan and Leslie Farris each had two hits for the Seminoles. Reyna Carranco was 3-for-3 with a run scored for Arizona in the loss.

With the win, FSU finishes a 5-game West Coast road trip with a 3-2 record. For the season, FSU is 25-2. The Seminoles head home to open ACC play against Notre Dame on Friday.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU softball, FSU men’s tennis fell to Miami on Sunday, 4-0. FSU beach volleyball suffered losses to UCLA and USC. FSU women’s golf won the Darius Rucker Invitational.

On the Agenda

FSU swimming and diving will take part in NCAA Zone B competition.

News and Notes

The ACC will name players of the week for various sports on Monday.

FSU basketball moved up two spots to No. 12 in this week’s AP Poll.

FSU remained No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll while ascending into the top 5 in the Baseball America Poll and No. 10 in the D1Baseball.com Poll. FSU fell one spot to No. 7 in this week’s NCBWA Poll.

FSU basketball’s Mfiondu Kabengele was named the ACC’s Sixth Man of the Year on Monday.
