Lead Story

Florida State head baseball coach Mike Martin was able to cross another milestone off his checklist on Saturday.

With a 5-2 win over Virginia Tech in the second game of a doubleheader, Martin became the first head coach in any NCAA sport to hit 2,000 wins. FSU did lose the first game of the day, 6-0.

In what will be his 40th and final season in Tallahassee, Martin’s FSU team is 13-1 on the year. He surpassed Texas legend Augie Garrido for the most wins ever last season with an extra-innings victory over Clemson. Martin goes for win No, 2,001 on Tuesday when the Seminoles visit Florida.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU baseball, FSU men’s hoops defeated Wake Forest on Saturday, 65-57. FSU track and field completed the NCAA Indoor Championships. FSU women’s golf leads after two rounds at the Darius Rucker Invitational. FSU beach volleyball collected wins over Pepperdine and Hawaii. FSU softball fell to Arizona in five innings, 11-3.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s golf will wrap up the Darius Rucker Invitational on Sunday. FSU men’s tennis will face Miami in Lake Nona. FSU beach volleyball faces UCLA and USC out in California. FSU softball wraps up a 3-game set at Arizona at 3 p.m. EST on Pac-12 Networks.

News and Notes

Former South Florida coach and Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt reportedly visited FSU on Saturday.

FSU hoops will open the ACC Tournament at 2:30 p.m. EST on Thursday.

FSU has added former Wisconsin quarterback Alex Hornibrook, giving it 83 scholarship players.
