Lead Story

Florida State head baseball coach Mike Martin needs one win to become the first coach in college baseball history to win 2,000 games and he’ll have two chances on Saturday to do it.

That number was cut to one on Friday night as Florida State scored three runs in the 10th inning to stun Virginia Tech, 9-8, in the ACC opener for both teams. Martin became college baseball’s all-time wins leader with an extra innings victory over Clemson last season, surpassing Texas great Augie Garrido.

The Seminoles and Hokies will play a doubleheader at Dick Howser Stadium on Saturday with the first game, beginning at noon EST. Both contests will air on ACC Network Extra.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s tennis fell to Texas on Friday, 4-1. FSU women’s golf began the Darius Rucker Challenge. FSU track and field began the NCAA Indoor Championships. FSU softball defeated Arizona, 5-3. FSU women’s hoops fell to NC State in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals, 69-62. FSU baseball scored three runs in the 10th inning to stun Virginia Tech, 9-8

On the Agenda

Aside from baseball, FSU women’s golf and track and field will continue their respective events. FSU men’s hoops visits Wake Forest at 12 p.m. EST on Raycom Sports Network. FSU softball continues its series with Arizona at 8 p.m. EST on Pac-12 Networks. FSU beach volleyball will be in Los Angeles to face Pepperdine and Hawaii.

FSU baseball manged just one hit in a 6-0 loss to Virginia Tech in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

FSU baseball topped Virginia Tech in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday, 5-2, to get head coach Mike Martin his 2,000th career win.
