Only one head coach in any NCAA sport has 2,000 wins to his name. That’s Florida State head baseball coach Mike Martin.

The legend reached the milestone on Saturday night with a 5-2 victory over Virginia Tech in the second game of a doubleheader. The Seminoles (13-1) went ahead for good in the seventh inning on an RBI single from Drew Mendoza.

FSU would add a run in the inning on a sacrifice fly from Elijah Cabell. From there, J.C. Flowers did the rest.

Flowers gave FSU some additional insurance with a solo home run in the eighth. He pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save.

The Seminoles opened the scoring with two runs in the first. After Cooper Swanson went deep for his fifth home run of the season, Flowers singled home Mendoza.

The Hokies (9-5) drew even with a pair of runs in the third, thanks largely to three walks from FSU starter Shane Drohan. Kerry Carpenter singled home the first run before Kevin Madden tied the game with a sacrifice fly.

Chase Haney threw a perfect seventh to pick up the win for FSU. Nic Enright took the loss for the Hokies.
