Florida State fell into an early hole in Wednesday night’s contest, but rallied late to top North Florida in walk-off fashion at Dick Howser Stadium, 4-3.

Freshman Nander De Sedas played the role of hero with the winning RBI double off the wall in the bottom of the ninth to score catcher Matheu Nelson. De Sedas got the FSU (11-0) scoring started in the second inning by singling home Carter Smith.

Antonio Velez struggled mightily in his first career start for the Seminoles, recording just one out while allowing three runs and leaving the bases loaded. Jonah Scolaro was able to come in and get out of the jam en route to retiring all eight batters he faced.

All three runs for North Florida (8-6) came in the first frame off Velez. After Tanner May walked with the bases loaded to get the scoring started, Austin Hurwitz and Wes Weeks added RBI singles to push the Ospreys’ lead to three.

FSU wasn’t able to draw even until the seventh inning, courtesy of a 2-run home run off the bat of Elijah Cabell. It was his third of the season. Chase Haney allowed just a hit in two scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season for the Seminoles. North Florida’s Eddie Miller took the loss.

Both teams finished with eight hits. De Sedas and Cabell each had two for FSU in the win. Hurwitz went 2-for-4 for North Florida in the loss.

After midweek contests with Jacksonville and South Florida were lost to rain, Wednesday’s game was the first during the week for the Seminoles this season. It was also the second walk-off victory. FSU will open ACC play at home on Friday against Virginia Tech.
