The Daily Nole — March 6, 2019: FSU Softball Unanimous No. 1 in NFCA Poll

Happy hump day, Florida State fans. As your week heads downhill, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State softball being ranked the No. 1 team in the country isn’t new, but it is now unanimous.

In the NFCA Poll, FSU received all 32 first-place votes. It’s the first time this season that the Seminoles have been a unanimous No. 1. In the USA Softball Poll, FSU received 18 of 20 first-place votes.

The top 5 was the same in both polls as FSU was followed by UCLA, Oklahoma, Florida and Alabama. For the season, the Seminoles are 22-0. They’ll begin a road trip out west on Wednesday night with a doubleheader against Grand Canyon.

Between the Lines

FSU hoops defeated Virginia Tech on Tuesday night in overtime, 73-64. FSU men’s golf finished eighth at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate.

On the Agenda

In addition to FSU softball, FSU baseball will host North Florida on Wednesday night. The contest begins at 6 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra.

Between the Lines

Antonio Velez will make his first career start for the Seminoles on Wednesday night.

Former FSU defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews won’t return to his advisory role in 2019.

FSU women’s hoops remained No. 22 in the AP Poll and No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

FSU women’s hoops’ Kiah Gillespie was named first-team All-ACC on Tuesday while Valencia Myers was named ACC All-Freshman.

FSU baseball defeated North Florida on Wednesday night on a walk-off double by Nander De Sedas, 4-3.
