An outstanding collective pitching performance and the home run were the difference for Florida State on Sunday as the Seminoles completed the 3-game sweep of Mercer at Dick Howser Stadium, 5-1.

FSU (10-0) broke a scoreless tie with back-to-back home runs in the third inning. After Drew Mendoza put the Seminoles on the board with a 2-run shot, Elijah Cabell came through with a solo homer.

Mendoza would add his second of the day and third in the last two days in the seventh — also a solo shot. Cooper Swanson hit his third home run in as many days with a solo blast in the sixth.

Shane Drohan didn’t allow a run in his first career start for FSU, but left with one out in the fourth inning and the bases loaded. Conor Grady worked out of the jam and retired all eight hitters he faced to pick up the win.

Trevor Austin broke up the shutout for Mercer (8-4) with an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the eight. The Bears managed just five hits.

Junior Zach Graveno took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of work. The Seminoles will host North Florida on Wednesday.
