The Daily Nole — March 2, 2019: Drohan Enters FSU Weekend Rotation

Lead Story

After two weekend series, Florida State is making a change to its starting rotation.

Sophomore Shane Drohan will make his first career start for the Seminoles in the finale of a 3-game series against Mercer on Sunday. For the season, Drohan is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in two appearances and 5.1 innings pitched.

Drohan picked up his first career win last Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader against Youngstown State. Drohan replaces Austin Pollock, who struggled in his first two starts, allowing eight runs in 4.2 innings pitched and a .381 opposing batting average.

Between the Lines

FSU beach volleyball defeated UAB and LSU by 4-1 scores. FSU men’s swimming continued the ACC Championships on Friday. FSU women’s tennis defeated Virginia Tech 5-2 while the men fell to Georgia Tech, 4-3. FSU baseball defeated Mercer on Friday night , 9-5.

On the Agenda

FSU basketball will host NC State at noon on Saturday in a contest that airs on ESPN2. FSU men’s swimming will wrap up the ACC Tournament. FSU beach volleyball continues the FAU Beach Burrow Bash with matches against South Carolina and Florida Atlantic. FSU softball begins the UCF Invitational with contests against Toledo and Louisiana Tech. FSU baseball hosts Mercer at 2 p.m. EST in a contest that airs on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU hoops is currently 17th, according to Ken Pomeroy.

Florida State’s Brandon Hon has been selected the South Region Women’s Assistant Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year by USTFCCCA.

FSU basketball defeated NC State 78-73 at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Saturday.

FSU baseball blasted Mercer on Saturday at Dick Howser Stadium, 12-1.

FSU men’s swimming and diving finished fifth in the ACC Championships, which wrapped up Saturday.
