The Daily Nole — March 1, 2019: FSU Women’s Hoops Falls to Syracuse on “Senior” Night

Florida State’s women’s basketball’s seniorless Senior Night saw the Seminoles make a furious late rally, but ultimately fall short to Syracuse in a match-up of top 25 teams on Thursday night, 94-88.

FSU trailed by as many as 11 in the fourth quarter before rallying to tie it on multiple occasions. Ultimately, the Orange closed the game on a 9-3 run with all nine points coming from Tiana Mangakahia, who scored a career-high 44 points on 16-for-20 shooting from the field.

As a team, Syracuse shot 62 percent to 48 percent for FSU. Nausia Woolfolk scored 29 points to lead the Seminoles while Kiah Gillespie added 20. Valencia Myers and Nicki Ekhomu finished with 19 and 12 points, respectively, for FSU in the loss.

With the defeat, No. 21 FSU falls to 21-7 and 9-6 in ACC play. The Seminoles will wrap up the regular season on Sunday at Georgia Tech.

Between the Lines

In addition to women’s hoops, FSU men’s swimming continued the ACC Championships in Greensboro on Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s swimming will continue the ACC Championships on Friday. FSU beach volleyball begins the FAU Beach Burrow Bash with UAB and LSU. FSU men’s tennis will be at Georgia Tech while the women face Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. FSU baseball opens a 3-game set at 6 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU football’s first two spring practices on March 4 and March 6 will be open to the public.

FSU announced a new amenity open to boosters and season ticket holders that will sell beer at the April 6 spring game.

FSU pitcher Shane Drohan will replace Austin Pollock as the Sunday starter in this weekend’s series against Mercer.

FSU baseball defeated Mercer on Friday night , 9-5.
