The Daily Nole — Feb. 25, 2019: Alameda Gets Win No. 500

Lead Story

The milestone victories for Florida State head softball coach Lonni Alameda are piling up. On Sunday, she notched career win No. 500 with a 13-1 over Samford to wrap up the Unconquered Invitational.

The Seminoles needed just five innings to dispose of the Bulldogs after racing to a 7-run first. Cali Harrod, Sydney Sherrill, Dani Morgan and Savannah Parker all homered in the victory. Sherrill, Parker and Morgan all drove in three runs while five different FSU players scored twice.

Meghan King improved to 8-0 by allowing just an unearned run in three innings of work. As a team, top-ranked FSU improved to 17-0. Merritt Cahoon scored the only Samford run.

Between the Lines

In addition to softball, FSU women’s hoops fell to Miami on Sunday, 64-54. FSU beach volleyball notched a 4-1 win over South Carolina and a 5-0 win over Tampa. FSU men’s golf finished second in the Seminole Invitational.

On the Agenda

FSU basketball will host Notre Dame on Monday night. The contest begins at 7 p.m. EST and airs on ESPN.

News and Notes

FSU remained put at No. 6 in the Baseball America Poll and No. 13 in the D1Baseball Poll. FSU climbed two spots to No. 7 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll. FSU rose one spot to No. 8 in the NCBWA Poll.

FSU basketball fell two spots to No. 18 in the AP Poll. FSU remained No. 17 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

FSU freshman Robby Martin was named ACC Player of the Week after driving in eight runs against Youngstown State.

Former 3-star prospect Wyatt Rector will come to FSU as a transfer walk-on.

FSU hoops defeated Notre Dame on Monday night at the Donald L. Tucker Center, 68-61.
