Rather than pitching stealing the show with a combined no-hitter, it was the bats that did the damage for Florida State on Saturday at Dick Howser Stadium as the Seminoles blasted Maine in the first game of a doubleheader, 16-3.

Maine (0-2) made things interesting with two runs in the fourth on a 2-run double by Caleb Kerbs to cut the FSU lead to 3-2. The Seminoles (2-0) responded with four runs in the bottom half before adding one in the fifth, two more in the sixth, another 4-spot in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Elijah Cabel and Mike Salvatore each homered for FSU. The nearly 450-foot blast for Cabell was the first of his career. Salvatore, Reese Albert and Nander De Sedas each drove in four runs for the Seminoles.

J.C. Flowers scored four runs and drove in two more. Jonathan Foster was hitless for Florida State, but scored three runs.

C.J. Van Eyk picked up the win for FSU, striking out eight batters in six innings while yielding two runs on six hits. Matthew Pushard took the loss for the Black Bears. He allowed three runs on just two hits in three innings, but walked nine Seminoles.
