The Daily Nole — Feb. 3, 2019: Former Nole Joyner to Play in Super Bowl LIII

Lead Story

It’s the day of the big game for football fans as the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots will square off in Super Bowl LIII.

At defensive back for the Rams will be former Florida State All-American and Thorpe Award finalist Lamarcus Joyner. For the season, the former FSU defensive back has 78 tackles, three for loss and one sack.

Joyner was a member of FSU’s 2013 national championship team. Ryan Izzo, a tight end, is the only former FSU player on New England’s roster, but is on injured reserve. Four former FSU players were Super Bowl champions last season as members of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Between the Lines

FSU basketball defeated Georgia Tech at home on Saturday, 59-49. FSU men’s tennis fell to Florida in Lake Nona, 4-1.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s golf begins the Northrup Grumman Challenge on Sunday. FSU women’s basketball hosts Wake Forest at 2 p.m. EST. The contest airs on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU men’s hoops currently ranks 28th, according to Ken Pomeroy.

FSU quarterback Deondre Francois has been dismissed from the team.

FSU landed the commitment of 4-star linebacker Stephen Dix, Jr. on Sunday.
