The Daily Nole — Feb. 1, 2019: FSU Women Top Miami, 62-58

Lead Story

Less than a week after Florida State men’s basketball completed the season sweep of Miami, the FSU women took the first match-up against the rival Hurricanes. The Seminoles got the better of Miami on Thursday night at the Donald L. Tucker Center, 62-58.

Miami led 22-20 at the break, but FSU closed the third quarter on a 11-2 run to lead 39-30 after three quarters and seize control of the contest. Miami shot better from the field, the stripe and from beyond the arc, but Florida State was able to score 19 points off 23 Hurricane turnovers.

Kiah Gillespie finished with 20 points and six rebounds to lead FSU in the victory while Sayawni Lassiter added 11. Mykea Gray led Miami with 14 points, but on just 5-for-18 shooting. Beatrice Mompremier finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.

With the win, FSU improves to 18-3 and 6-2 in ACC play. The Seminoles will remain home to face Wake Forest on Sunday.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s hoops was the only scheduled athletic event for Thursday.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Friday.

News and Notes

FSU soccer’s Malia Berkely, Gabby Carle, Dallas Dorosy, Natalia Kuikka, Kristina Lynch and Kristen McFarland were all named to the All-ACC Academic team.

Eight FSU cross country athletes were named to the All-ACC Academic team.

Florida State volleyball’s Taryn Knuth and Kelsey Wicinski were named to the 2018 All-ACC Academic team.
