What is expected to be a big recruiting weekend for Florida State got off to a promising start, but not with the addition of a high school prospect currently on campus.

Former Northern Illinois offensive lineman and graduate transfer Ryan Roberts announced on Saturday that he will playing his football in Tallahassee next season rather than DeKalb. Roberts will provide a veteran presence at FSU’s biggest weak spot and at a position that is losing at least three players who started games last season in Alec Eberle, Derrick Kelly and Arthur Williams.

Listed at 6-foot-6 and nearly 300 pounds, Roberts has started 10 games the last two seasons for the Huskies and helped the team win the MAC title this past season. Like FSU, Northern Illinois also struggled on offense this past season.

Roberts made just two starts in 2018 and is not guaranteed to crack the starting lineup for the Seminoles in 2019. Roberts started at right tackle for the Huskies in last season’s 37-19 loss to Florida State.
