FSU Blows Big Early Lead, Suffers Bad Loss at Boston College, 87-82

Boston College entered Sunday as the last ACC team without a win in conference play. That changed at the expense of No. 11 Florida State in Chestnut Hill, 87-82.

FSU (13-5, 1-4 ACC) led 40-25 with less than six minutes to play in the first half. The Seminoles led 46-36 at halftime, but a 21-4 run to open the second half put Boston College (10-7, 1-4 ACC) ahead by seven with less than 14 minutes to play and the Eagles never looked back. Boston College led by as many as 14 points in the second half before holding off a late run.

Boston College shot 49 percent for the game and an ungodly 13-for-21 from beyond the 3-point arc. Ky Bowman scored a game-high 37 points on 13-for-18 shooting and 6 of 8 from deep. Jordan Chatman scored 17 points while Wynston Tabbs added 12 in the victory.

With the exception of committing fewer turnovers, there wasn’t an area where Florida State held a clear advantage on Sunday. The Seminoles shot 42 percent from the field and continued to struggle from distance, going 8-for-25. Boston College held a slight 39-38 rebounding edge.

Mfiondu Kabengele finished with a career-high 26 points and nine rebounds to lead FSU. Terance Mann scored 14 points while M.J. Walker added 12, but on just 4-for-13 shooting. Trent Forrest chipped in with nine points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Adding injury to insult for FSU was the loss of senior forward Phil Cofer to a foot injury. Cofer missed the first month of the season with a foot injury.

FSU will have a short turnaround as it returns home to face Clemson on Tuesday night. Boston College won’t play again until visiting Wake Forest next Saturday.
