The Daily Nole — Jan. 13, 2019: FSU Women’s Swimming/Diving Upsets Alabama

Lead Story

Florida State’s swimming and diving teams went 5-1 during the first week of action and that included one significant upset.

The FSU women’s swimming and diving team took down No. 23 Alabama on Saturday, 159-141. The women’s team won six individual events against the Crimson Tide on Saturday, including the 200-meter medley and 200-meter freestyle relays.

Kertu Alnek and Leila Johnston finished first and second in the 100-meter freestyle for FSU. The FSU men fell to Alabama in a top-20 contest, 188-117. Up next for FSU is a home meet with Florida Atlantic on Jan. 26.

Between the Lines

In addition to swimming and diving, FSU men’s basketball dropped a heartbreaker at home to Duke, 80-78. FSU men’s tennis defeated New Orleans and UAB at the Florida State Spring Invitational.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s tennis will wrap up the Florida State Spring Invitational on Sunday. FSU women’s hoops hosts Clemson at 2 p.m. EST. That contest airs on ACC Network Extra.
