The Daily Nole – Jan. 7, 2019: FSU Women Rally Past North Carolina

Lead Story

Florida State women’s hoops overcame a 6-point deficit in the fourth quarter on Sunday to rally past North Carolina and stay undefeated in ACC play, 64-63.

Trailing 58-54 late, FSU used a 3-point play from Valencia Myers and five straight free throws from Nicki Ekhomu to go ahead for good. Shayla Bennett had a 3-point attempt to tie the game for the Tar Heels late, but it went awry.

Nausia Woolfolk led all scorers with 20 points in the victory. Ekhomu added 16 points and seven assists. Kiah Gillespie finished with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Paris Kea scored 17 points to lead North Carolina before fouling out.

With the win, FSU improves to 14-1 and 2-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles return home to face Clemson on Sunday.

FSU women’s hoops was the only scheduled athletic event for Sunday.

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.
