The Daily Nole — Jan. 4, 2019: Derwin James Named PFF Rookie of the Year

Former Florida State safety Derwin James has certainly made an impact as a rookie for the Los Angeles Chargers and on Thursday, he was named Pro Football Focus’ Defensive Rookie of the Year.

James was recently named to the Pro Bowl after a team-leading 105 tackles for the playoff-bound Chargers. James added 3.5 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions as a rookie.

James was selected 17th overall by the Chargers in the 2018 NFL Draft. James and Los Angeles will look to extend their season this weekend as they visit the Baltimore Ravens in an AFC Wild Card game.

FSU women’s hoops defeated Virginia on Thursday night, 63-61.

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Friday.

News and Notes

FSU football is currently holding tryouts for walk-ons.

FSU baseball will hold Fan Day on Feb. 9.

4-star receiver Arjei Henderson picked Florida over FSU on Thursday night.
