FSU athletics

Happy New Year, Florida State fans. As your New Year’s Day winds down, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Despite wrapping up non-conference play with a win over Georgia State and a 12-1 record, Florida State women’s basketball remains unranked in the AP Poll.

FSU was again on the outside looking in at the release of Monday’s poll. The Seminoles were behind the likes of 4-loss teams like South Carolina and DePaul and a 9-3 Iowa team that FSU defeated on a neutral court. Among teams unranked, only Virginia Tech received more votes than Florida State.

FSU did break into the USA Today Coaches Poll last week at No. 25. This week’s Coaches Poll has not yet been released.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s basketball will wrap up non-conference play on Tuesday against Winthrop. The contest begins at 2 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

College football’s New Year’s Six bowls wrap up with the Fiesta Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl.

FSU basketball defeated Winthrop on Tuesday afternoon, 87-76.
