4-Star DT Derick Hunter Flips to Texas A&M

One of the more tenuous commits in the Florida State class made his flip official on Wednesday. 4-star defensive tackle Derick Hunter decommitted from Florida State and committed to Texas A&M.

Back when Hunter committed in June, Florida State knew what it was getting into. Hunter knows how to play the media in recruiting, and he often would show love to other schools on social media while maintaining that he was locked in with Florida State.

For a while that was true — but towards the end of the process, Jimbo Fisher made a late push for the defensive tackle out of Fort Myers. It was enough to make him flip by Early Signing Day.

Hunter is ranked as the No. 277 overall player and No. 19 strongside defensive end by the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Though he is listed as a strongside defensive end, Florida State liked him at defensive tackle, along with Quashon Fuller. The Seminoles are still hoping to sign Fuller, along with already-signed 3-star defensive tackle Malcolm Ray and 3-star defensive tackle Tru Thompson.

Those three will complete the defensive tackle group in the class. Florida State currently has five on the roster after 2018. It is also possible that a couple of their defensive linemen in last year’s group convert.

FSU’s class remains 11th overall and second in the ACC
