The Daily Nole — Dec. 10, 2018: FSU Women’s Hoops Tops St. John’s

Lead Story

St. John’s made a late charge in the Big Apple on Sunday afternoon, but Florida State women’s hoops managed to hold off the Red Storm, 57-53, and improve to 9-1.

FSU led by as many as 14 in the final quarter, but the Red Storm would get as close as three before Valencia Myers iced the game by splitting a pair of free throws with less than 12 seconds to play. The Seminoles shot just 33 percent, but held the Red Storm to 31 percent in the win.

Kiah Gillespie finished with 22 points and seven rebounds to lead the Seminoles while Nicki Ekhomu added 12 points. Alisha Kebbe led St. John’s with 17 points while Kayla Charles added a game-high 20 rebounds in the loss.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s hoops was the only scheduled athletic event for Sunday.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

News and Notes

FSU basketball moved up one spot to No. 10 in this week’s AP Poll. The same was true for FSU in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

The ACC will name players of the week for various sports.
