Lead Story
A number of Florida State teams advanced on Friday, including the women’s basketball team. The Seminoles advanced to the final of the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas with a 62-45 win over Eastern Kentucky.
FSU led by just seven after three quarters, but pulled away late to improve to 5-1 on the season. Kiah Gillespie led FSU with 21 points while Valencia Myers, a freshman, added 14 points and 16 rebounds. Savannah Wilkinson chipped in with 10 points in the win.
Catie Kaifes led the Colonels with 12 points in the loss. FSU shot 49 percent to 34 percent for Eastern Kentucky. When it came to 3-point shooting, the Seminoles were just 3-for-19 while Eastern Kentucky was 9-for-25.
FSU will play Iowa for the Junkanoo Jam title at 6:45 p.m. EST on Saturday. The Hawkeyes overcame a 19-point deficit to defeat West Virginia on Friday, 84-81.
Between the Lines
In addition to FSU women’s hoops, FSU volleyball defeated NC State in four sets on Friday. FSU men’s hoops defeated LSU to advance to the final of the AdvoCare Invitational, 79-76. FSU soccer advanced to the College Cup with a 1-0 win over Penn State in the Elite Eight.
On the Agenda
In addition to the Junkanoo Jam final, FSU football will host rival Florida on Saturday. The contest starts at 12 p.m. EST and airs on ABC.
