For the first time since 2015, Florida State soccer is bound for the College Cup.

The Seminoles took advantage of a No. 1 seed and the home field with four straight wins in Tallahassee to open the NCAA Tournament. The most recent came on Friday afternoon in the round of eight with a 1-0 victory over Penn State.

FSU (18-4-3) held off an aggressive start from Penn State in the first half before Deyna Castellanos broke through with the game’s only goal in the 53rd minute. Yujie Zhao and Kaycie Tillman assisted on the goal.

Both teams finished the day with eight shots, but only two of those for Penn State (18-6-1) were on goal. Caroline Jeffers made both saves for the Seminoles. FSU had five shots on goal as Penn State goalkeeper Amanda Dennis came away with four saves.

Florida State heads to Cary, North Carolina where it will face either Stanford or Tennessee. The Cardinal eliminated FSU in the Sweet 16 last season. The loss for the Nittany Lions is their first in regulation since falling to Nebraska on Sept. 27.
