FSU Hoops Runs Past Canisius, 93-61

No. 14 Florida State remained perfect on the young season with a 93-61 victory over Canisius on Monday night in a campus game of the Advocare Invitational at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

The last deficit of the game for FSU (3-0) was 14-13 late in the first half. The Seminoles built a 42-27 lead at the break, but the Golden Griffins (1-2) cut the lead to six by opening the second half on a 14-5 run.

FSU responded with the game’s next 11 points and never looked back. During the run, Canisius forward Scott Hitchon was ejected for an elbow to the head of Florida State’s Terance Mann.

As a team, FSU shot 53 percent from the floor, 7-for-14 from deep and 24-for-30 from the free throw line. Canisius shot a respectable 42 percent and 8-for-21 from downtown. It turned the ball over 19 times to FSU’s 15.

FSU forward Mfiondu Kabengele finished with 18 points to lead FSU while Mann and M.J. Walker each added 12. Freshman Devin Vassell finished with 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting. Center Christ Koumadje grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to go with eight points.

Canisius guard Malik Johnson led all scorers with 20 points on 6-for-9 shooting and 5 of 6 from deep. Takal Molson and Isaiah Reese each added 15 in the loss.

FSU will continue the Advocare Invitational on Thursday night in Lake Buena Vista against UAB. Canisius will take on Villanova in the event.
