The Daily Nole – Nov. 12, 2018: Florida State Volleyball Comes Back to Defeat Notre Dame

Florida State volleyball now holds second place in the ACC after coming back from a 2-0 set deficit to defeat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Seminoles hosted Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon for a pivotal conference match. Florida State has rebounded for the 2018 season after a disappointing 2017, and a win over the Fighting Irish would give them a shot at the regular season conference title.

It didn’t look good at first. Notre Dame won the first two sets and seemed prime to shutout the Seminoles in Tallahassee. But Florida State squeaked out a win in the third set before completely dominating the fourth set 25-12. It all came down to the fifth tiebreaker set, where Florida State prevailed 15-9.

The victory sets up a huge match on November 16th with the No. 10 Pittsburgh Panthers. That contest will decide the winner of the ACC, and a Florida State victory would mark one of the bigger turnarounds in program history.

Between the Lines

Florida State women’s basketball prevailed in an ugly 63-56 result over the Florida Gators. The Seminoles started the game by going down 18-8 early, before roaring back and entering the locker room down just one. The second half saw Florida State edge out Florida by outscoring the Gators 35-28. Kiah Gillespie led the Seminoles with 19 points.

There are no athletic events scheduled for Monday.

News and Notes

FSU and Boston College football will kick off at 3:30 p.m. EST on Saturday.

Florida State will wear a new uniform combination against Boston College. The FSU Football Equipment Team Twitter account tweeted this out earlier Monday.
