Lead Story

Florida State’s men’s basketball’s big win over Florida stole the FSU athletic headlines on Tuesday, but the women also began the season with a convincing victory. The Seminoles crushed Troy in the season opener on Tuesday, 103-67.

Nicki Ekhomu scored 31 points to lead five Seminoles in double-figures. Kiah Gillespie added 22 points and Valencia Myers chipped in with 17. Defensively, FSU held Troy to just 28 percent shooting and held a 20-rebound advantage on the glass. Gillespie and Myers finished with 12 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

Leading the way for Troy was Amber Rivers, who finished with 12 points. Up next for the Seminoles is a home contest with North Florida on Friday.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU’s women’s hoops victory, the FSU men crushed rival Florida on Tuesday night, 81-60.

On the Agenda

Both FSU men’s and women’s tennis will participate in the ITA Oracle National Fall Championships on Wednesday.

FSU quarterbacks James Blackman and Deondre Francois are listed as co-starters for Saturday’s contest against Notre Dame.
