The Daily Nole — Nov. 6, 2018: Walt Bell to Call Plays for Rest of 2018

It’s Election Day, Florida State fans, and opening day for both FSU basketball programs. As you head to the polls, to work or to the couch, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

After getting the duties for Saturday’s contest at NC State, it was reported on Monday that offensive coordinator Walt Bell will take over play-calling duties for the remainder of the season.

Although the ground game continued to be dreadful in a 47-28 loss to the Wolfpack, FSU did get a season-high 421 passing yards from quarterback James Blackman in his first start of the year. The Seminoles also put up 28 points, which was their most in a road game this season.

Thanks largely to offensive line woes, FSU ranks 13th in the ACC in total offense and dead last in rushing. Prior to last weekend, head coach Willie Taggart had been handling the play-calling duties.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

On the Agenda

Both FSU basketball programs open the season at home on Tuesday. The women host Troy at 11 a.m. EST on ACC Network Extra. The men battle Florida at 9 p.m. EST on ESPN2.

News and Notes

Florida State will wear all white for Saturday’s contest against Notre Dame.

FSU hoops defeated rival Florida on Tuesday night, 81-60.
