The Daily Nole — Nov. 2, 2018: FSU’s Zhao Named ACC Freshman of the Year

Lead Story

Five Florida State soccer players earned end-of-the-year honors from the ACC on Thursday, including Yujie Zhao, who was named ACC Freshman of the Year. Zhao, a midfielder who ranks second on the team in points, was also a first-team All-ACC selection.

Junior and leading scorer Deyna Castellanos joined Zhao on the conference’s first team. Representing the Seminoles on the second team were senior defender Natalia Kuikka and freshman Jaelin Howell. Those two have combined for nine points this season.

Redshirt sophomore defender Malia Berkely was named to the ACC’s third team. Zhao and Howell were both ACC All Freshman team honorees as well.

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s tennis will be in Sarasota for the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate on Friday. FSU swimming and diving takes on Florida. FSU volleyball visits Notre Dame at 7 p.m. EST while FSU soccer faces Virginia in the ACC Tournament semifinals at 8 p.m. EST. Both contests air on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU basketball took down Valdosta State in an exhibition on Thursday night, 99-77.

FSU has yet to name a starting quarterback for Saturday’s contest with NC State.

FSU soccer defeated Virginia in the ACC Tournament semifinals on Friday night, 3-1.
