It’s the weekend, Florida State fans. Although there’s no FSU football, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

TopDrawerSoccer released its top players midseason rankings earlier this week and Florida State soccer had seven players make the publication’s lists, including the top freshman.

Midfielder Yujie Zhao was named the nation’s top freshman by the publication. For the season, Zhao is tied with Deyna Castellanos for the team lead with five goals and 13 total points.

Also making the top 100 among freshmen were midfielders Jaelin Howell and Kirsten Pavlisko, who came in at No. 28 and No. 53, respectively, and goalkeeper Brooke Bollinger at No. 81. Castellanos, a junior forward, was ranked No. 15 among upperclassmen while senior defender Natalia Kuikka and redshirt sophomore midfielder Malia Berkely were No. 40 and No. 73, respectively.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s tennis began the Bedford Cup in South Florida on Friday. FSU volleyball defeated Boston College in four sets.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s tennis will continue the Bedford Cup on Saturday while FSU cross country participates in the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals. FSU soccer hosts NC State in a match that begins at 1 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.
