4-Star Small Forward Patrick Williams Commits to FSU

FSU athletics

Florida State basketball received a commitment on Saturday afternoon from 4-star small forward Patrick Williams. Per Twitter:

Williams is from Charlotte, North Carolina and measures in at 6-foot-7 and 180 pounds. He recently visited Florida State in late September, and the consensus among recruiting sites was that Williams was leaning towards the Seminoles. When he announced Friday that he’d be committing on Oct. 6, Florida State was squarely in the driver’s seat.

Williams is a raw prospect who is growing into his body as a player. He went through a growth spurt during his junior year that changed him from a point guard to a small forward, though he seems to have even gained some athleticism along with it. His tape shows flashes of dominance when he’s using his length as a defender or when he’s driving to the rim.

Williams also has a quick release that surprises most defenders. He probably isn’t an early contributor unless he develops faster than anticipated, but all the tools are there for success down the road. His ceiling is someone like Dwayne Bacon.

As mentioned, this is FSU basketball’s first major commit of the 2019 cycle. Williams is a top-50 player who was wanted by major programs like NC State, Arizona, and Louisville. His commitment brings the Seminoles’ class to 32nd in the nation and fourth in the ACC.

Williams is the third commit for 2019, along with 3-star small forward Zimife Nwokeji and JUCO guard Nathanael Jack. FSU will likely add two more players to the class. The Seminoles need size down low, since center Christ Koumadje is graduating after the 2018-19 season. Right now they are favored for 4-star center Balsa Koprivica, 4-star center Kai Jones, and 3-star center Naheem McLeod.
