FSU Athletics

The weekend is here, Florida State fans. As your day and week carry on, keep it here for the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State volleyball (7-6, 3-0 ACC) is over .500 on the year after sweeping the Virginia Cavaliers 3-0 on Friday night. The Seminoles dominated all three sets and came back from behind in the third to win it. The final set tallies were 25-19, 25-23, and 25-21. It was Florida State’s seventh sweep of the season.

In the first set of the match, Brianne Burkert passed Hailey Luke for the sixth-most career assists in FSU’s rally scoring history. Burkert is a senior who enrolled in 2015 and immediately made her mark, garnering All-Freshman honors in her first year. She currently has 2,581 assists to her name with a great chance to continue up the all-time assist list. If she replicates her career-high 927 from last season, she’ll finish second in the record books.

Florida State continues its road trip with a match against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Sunday. That game will start at 1 p.m. EST.
