The Daily Nole — Sept. 22, 2018: FSU Volleyball Opens ACC Play With Win Over Duke

Lead Story

After a difficult non-conference slate, Florida State volleyball opened ACC play on the right foot on Friday night with a straight set win over Duke at home.

The Seminoles topped the Blue Devils, 25-23, 25-22, 25-19 at home. Payton Caffrey, a junior, led FSU with a match-high 31 kills. Kelsey Wicinski had 13 digs and Brianne Burkert had 20 assists in the victory.

Ade Owokoniran and Payton Schwantz each led the Blue Devils with 29 kills. With the victory, FSU improves to 5-6 and 1-0 in conference. Up next is a home match with Wake Forest on Sunday.

On the Agenda

In addition to FSU volleyball on Friday, FSU women’s tennis participated in the Oracle ITA Masters and the Debbie Southern Fall Classic.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s tennis will continue both of the aforementioned tournaments on Saturday. FSU football hosts Northern Illinois at 3:30 p.m. EST. That contest airs on ESPNU. FSU cross country will take part in the Mountain Dew Invitational.

FSU is a 10-point favorite to beat Northern Illinois.

FSU basketball got a commitmentfrom JUCO guard Nathanael Jack on Saturday.

FSU defeated Northern Illinois on Saturday, 37-19.
