CB Isaiah Bolden Likely Out for Year

Head coach Willie Taggart announced on Thursday that the Florida State defense lost one of its promising freshman cornerbacks for the year. True freshman cornerback Isaiah Bolden underwent shoulder surgery and will be unavailable for likely the rest of 2018.

It’s a disappointing development for the FSU defense and Bolden himself, who received substantial playing time against Samford. The Seminoles experimented with defensive back formations and rotated in Bolden during the second half. He sustained a shoulder injury in the game and was unavailable for Syracuse.

Bolden is a former blue-chip recruit who was a ranked as the 25th best cornerback in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite. He’s a lengthy and athletic defender who fits defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett’s system very well. He was still considered a bit of a raw prospect when he enrolled, but his progress was evident by the time he saw reps against the Bulldogs. Losing Bolden isn’t a massive hit for the defense, though it does thin out the depth chart and deny a promising player more opportunities.

He’s likely to receive a medical redshirt since he played in less than four games.
